I am so sick and tired of being asked “What are you?”
PLEASE IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE READ THIS: BEFORE YOU EVER EVER EVER ASK SOMEONE “WHAT THEY ARE” ASK YOURSELF FIRST WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW? AND IF YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW, DON’T ASK.
It’s that simple.
I cannot think of a single reason that you would need to ask me about this information.
If you really wanted to know who I am, if you really cared to understand me as a person, you would just stick around. You would read my blog where I speak endlessly about my identity and my experiences.
But I don’t believe that people who write me messages like this actually care to get to know me. I don’t believe they want to understand who I am so they can better support me and work in solidarity with me, so they can use the gendered words that make me feel good, or so they can share their experience with me as well.
No. These are passersby, craning their neck to catch the train wreck of my gender. Stopping in their path to demand “are you a man or a woman?” and then swiftly walking away after I respond. Walking away before this can become a conversation instead of an extraction. Even when they ask sweetly, tell me they’re curious, tell me I’m beautiful, and say they don’t want to offend me, the question is the same:
what exactly are you?
So to my anonymous asker, the answers you are looking for are all over my blog, tucked into my archives. They are buried in time, in fragments, so that anyone who is looking, will have to do some digging first. So that if you are to find my gender or my sexuality in these pages you will have to do so on MY TERMS. You will have to read through all of my words, not just the ones that would make this answer easy for you.
I have offered myself, vulnerable and tired, to this blog so many times.
But I refuse to entertain each entitled passerby, each “curious” asker, with an answer that suits them.

I think this message is very interesting. As I wrap up my degree in a related subject I see how society and media reflect on ‘family values’ and the value of women. This demonstration clearly delineates the hypocrisy that is so often present when referring to the ‘sins’ of being glbt.

Which one would be offensive in a family area?

it’s funny how one word can change someones perspective of something…
I am an amateur photographer. I have two cameras. I use a digital Canon S2 and a film Canon Rebel. I really enjoy nature photography and shooting my wife when she is not looking.
This is when we eloped. Just a few days to get the license, our friend to officiate and the time off!

Visit to Chicago in 2010. Walking food tour was amazing. My wife was very happy!
After saturating the other photos I was able to see the 2nd rainbow from that day!
The Jewish blessing for this occasion is:

“Holy One of blessing, Your presence fills creation, You remember your covenant with all that you created.”
